Team Spotlight - PJC Boys
On our Team Spotlight for this week, we have the captain from Pioneer JC – Nicholas to share with us on his team’s post-season experience and what they have learnt. We ask Nicholas 3 questions and here is his response to our questions..

What is your team’s slogan?
Our team’s slogan is “No Greater Victory than a Strong Camaraderie”. This quote was not by any well-known person, but it was by a member of our team. As Floorball is a team sport, it's important that we work together as a team and not only rely on certain individuals to perform. Every single player is an asset to the team. We need to have each other's back and to support one another in order to work together as a team, then will we be able to attain our goals. This slogan shows the importance of having good teamwork and understanding within our team.
What values does your team uphold?
Hard work. As a team with little or no prior experience to Floorball, the only way that we were going to be able to compete against experienced teams was through hard work. Many of our players would go the extra mile to improve themselves, such as staying back late after training to train their shooting or ball control. We were at a certain disadvantage compared to our competitors in terms of experience. Nevertheless, we were more motivated to train hard to improve ourselves as much as possible within a short period of time before A’ Division began. In the end, even though we only managed to achieve 7th position overall, we certainly made our mark in the 2016 A’ Division and it was all because of our player's sheer determination and hard work.
Sportsmanship is another value that my team upholds. Despite our losses during our friendly matches, I constantly remind my teammates to not be disheartened. They should be the bigger person and not seek unnecessary vengeance with the other team. Whatever that happens on the court stays in it. Similarly, when we win matches, I tell my teammates to not be arrogant but to be humble and respectful towards our other fellow athletes. It is also important for us all to try to better ourselves by finding our mistakes and rectifying it. It is our individual sole responsibility to be disciplined enough to constantly try to improve ourselves, and our teammates as Floorball athletes.
Tell us one thing you and your team have learnt from this 2016 season?
One valuable lesson my team and I have learnt this season is Resilience. 2016 A’ Division may not have gone as planned for my team, however it had been an enjoyable season for us all. This year, the stakes were higher and there were many expectations for us. In 2015, PJC Floorball managed to achieve an unprecedented Top 5 position. As such, there was unspoken pressure on us to do just as well or even better. Despite that and the lack of training time and proper training facilities, we strived to work even harder as a team in order to be fully prepared for the A division. Through this whole journey, we have learnt to never be satisfied with what we achieve but to always strive to improve ourselves no matter what. When we are faced with challenges, we learnt not to crumble but to pick ourselves up and move forward together as a team. As such, I am very proud and honored to be part of this amazing team.
Stay tune for next week Team Spotlight, it might just be your team....
