SFL 2015 (Ladies) - Albatross FC

The Singapore Floorball League 2015 has commenced in late August. The annual elite league is what many teams have been training for over the years. We dive into the mid season with some special interviews with various team in both men and women division to see how is their team’s preparation and more insight of their teams.

First up, we have defending champions – Albatross FC. They are represented by Nurul Ain Binte Khamis one of the captains for Albatross this season. Ain is 28 years old, and have been playing Floorball for 9 years. This season marks the 5th season Ain has journeyed with Albatross FC since its inception. Timonthy Quek is currently coaching Albatross, with his bagful of playing experience we are sure he will further value-add to Albatross playing style.

Ain shares a little history of Albatross - Albatross FC was founded in 2010 by sisters and former national players, Jill and Martha Quek, and also Priscilla Chia. It started off with them inviting the players they coached to be part of the team. As a new team in 2010, Albatross FC first set its foot in the Singapore Floorball League by competing in the Division 2 League. From that day onwards, the team is able to maintain its title as the Champion for 5 consecutive years. Albatross has good mixture of players of various playing experience and skills. We have players who have more than 10 years of experience to players with about 2 years of playing experience. Despite the vast difference in playing experience, we are still able to pull strong performances as we believe teamwork is the key to a successful team. We always believe that fitness is the key. Similar to previous years, we will always ensure that we have PT sessions to ensure all the players have the match fitness. Now, we are focussing more on the technical/tactical aspect of floorball.

When I ask Ain any players to look out for in Albatross? She responded positively – “I would say look out for everyone because the least known players are always the one that will spring up surprises. This season Albatross have a few new faces, they are Joscelin and Gigi (formerly from Wonderbelles), Eunice Yeo (formerly from Skools Owls), Miao Ling (formerly from NUS Titans).

When I ask Ain which team should we look out for in the league? she replied, “I believe we should look out for all the teams this years, we should never underestimate any teams.”

In the women division, Albatross FC is definitely the team to beat since its inception in SFL Division they have been champions for 4 consecutive years. And this year it will be no different affair for Albatross as they aim to be the best team in the league.

When I asked Ain to use 1 word that best describe her team, she replied, “Humble. No matter how good we are, we are always reminded to stay rooted to the ground.”

Stay tune, as we share with you some other interviews we had with other SFL Teams….
