Ter Min from Malaysia Men's Team sharing with us his SEA Games experience....

SEA Games don’t just have Team Singapore, there are other countries around the South East Asia region. And this week, we went across the causeway to our neighbors Malaysia. We are honored to interview the Captain from Malaysia Men’s Floorball team – Ter Min.

My name is Chiam Ter Min, I am 25 years old this year and I play for Malaysia. I have been playing Floorball for approximately 11 years now, started playing in 2004. I have been representing Malaysia for 8 years since 2007, started donning Malaysia colors at the age of 17. Currently I am playing for Contact Floorball Team, a club that is base in Penang Malaysia. I play as a right forward for Malaysia National Team.

When I ask Ter Min how he felt after he know that he was selected for the 28th SEA Games he said that “I didn’t really know what to expect at first you see, having a new coach to the team this year. And all of a sudden you go from being a regular to a total unknown. So it was quite a relief knowing I’ve made it to the team. “ I went on to asked Ter Min how was the experience like playing the 28th SEA Games in Singapore? - He responded, “I wouldn’t say I was there just for the experience although it is the first time playing in a multi sports event. But I enjoyed every moment of it on the court and off the court although the result wasn’t what we were looking for. So despite the disappointments, it was a good experience leading the team and playing in such a big event in Singapore.”

Due to geographic and financial reason, the Malaysia Men’s Team didn’t have the luxury of training together as a team and as frequently as other teams. They only trained once or twice a month as a team starting from October 2014, to sum up they trains less than 15 times together as a team. He added, “unlike Thailand team they are well funded and were able to train every single day for a couple of months prior to the tournament and on the other hand Singapore’s geographic advantage enable them to meet and train on a frequent basis. “. We know that Thailand has been preparing really hard and we surely know what Singapore and Philippines can do, but the team agreed that the target was to at least reach the Final and have a go at it. However that was not the case to be so it was rather disappointing in terms of reaching the target that has been set. We knew we had to beat Thailand in the first match, but we didn’t really kick into gear and it cost us.

The greatest moment for Ter Min was to be given the opportunity to captain and lead his team. He added, “The team consist of a mixture of senior players who played much longer than me and a large pool of new faces, so it was good mix and to be leading them out at the biggest stage of Floorball in our region was probably my highlight.” And the greatest moment for his team would be between clinching the bronze medal and having a go against the eventual winner’s Singapore during the group match.

Going into 28th SEA Games, the personal goal for Ter Min was to help the team achieve its goal which is to make it to the final. When I ask Ter Min to use 1 word that best describe him, he reply-: “Wow!” And told me he can’t describe further.
