Winning takes talent, to repeat takes character
Winning takes talent, to repeat takes character. Do you agree? Well, this week we are featuring a team that consists talent and character.

Picture says a thousand words, look at all he happy faces. Yes, we are featuring NSG 2014 A’ Division Floorball Champions – Raffles Junior College (RJC) boys team.
We interviewed the Captain of RJ Floorball, Zheng Zhenming and got to know more about him and RJ Floorball Boys. <Include details of Zhenming>
Zhenming describes RJ Floorball boys as “a bunch of crazy and lively people.” Apart from having court trainings together, the team also spent a lot of time bonding with one another.
The team takes every training seriously and seizing every opportunity to improve together as a team and also as an individual. While training hard, the team consistently maintains the level of discipline and focused on and off court.
How was the team preparation towards A’ Division 2014? Our preparation were break down into 2 main aspect – 1) Mental games coaching and tactical & technique aspect of Floorball through Coach Jill. 2) Consistent strength and conditioning to ensure that our stamina and speeds meets the demand of the game.
Coach Jill’s mental toughness guide helps us to tackle our mental weaknesses effectively. As a result, we were not taken aback by pressures of facing traditionally strong teams like VJC and MJC.
I asked Zhenming to share with us one of the team’s greatest moment in the tournament and why. He responded – “I guess the greatest moment must be the end of 2nd period against MJC during our semi-finals. We were down 4-1 and were huddling together discussing how to comeback. Nobody said a single word of giving up. We all kept our heads up and believed in each other. Because of this trust the team had and the strong bond we forged, we were eventually able to overcome the odds which were stacked so highly against us and comeback against MJC with a 7-5 win through penalties.”
Winning the championship, Zhenming see it as a blessing. And he says, the team went through many difficulties and it was truly fortunate that we were able to bring back the title. Many of us struggled during season to strike the balance between studies and trainings during season. But we all chose to put the team in front of our personal goals and devoted our hearts and souls into the Floorball, which paid off at the end.
The key element that helps the team to winning the championship is determination that every individual uphold. And the best word to describe the team dynamic will be trust that every one has for each other, trust that my fellow teammates will give his best be it on or off the court.
Encouragement from one another is the key for keeping the team together and moving forward together as a unit. When Zhenming talks about encouragement, he emphasize on positive encouragement from each other.
Coach Jill gives us motivational team talks. She always knows exactly what the team lacks in and points out to us specifically areas of improvements. Every training, coach Jill reminds us the importance of teamwork as Floorball is a sport played by 6 and not must one person. She always emphasize we must trust each other because “Teamwork makes the dream work”
Zhenming believes that RJC Floorball will be a highly respected team in A-division Floorball in near future. I think that our juniors are able to carry on our legacies and strive for further glories in future.
